🍲 It’s our annual mid-year potluck and destash! 🛍️
AKG will supply a main dish, and everyone is encouraged to RSVP and indicate what dish you will bring.
It’s also our BEST (barter, exchange, sell, & take) Destash event. Bring that lovely yarn that isn’t for you and help it find a new home. This is always a fun event, with an opportunity to try new food, socialize, exchange yarn, and meet other yarn/knit fanatics!

🇺🇸 Happy 4th to you all! 🇺🇸
Connection and education. Those are our two focal points in the AKG. Our next meeting is all about connection. We seek to build a vibrant and friendly community of craftivists!
When I first joined the guild, I didn’t know anyone and my skills were, on a good day, advanced beginner. By nature, I am an introvert. I distinctly remember being intimated by the large meetings and advanced skills I saw around me. After sitting quietly through several monthly programs, I realized I needed to get the ball rolling. I decided on an achievable goal: to introduce myself to the person on each side of me at the next meeting. The following month, I sought out those two people and sat by one, then introduced myself to another. It was slow going yet I was making progress. To speed things up, I decided to volunteer for something. That opened up a whole group of new relationships. I found it easier to bond while working on a common goal. And so, I was off and running. Today, almost 20 years later, I count among my most important relationships many friends I met in AKG meetings, workshops, KALs and through volunteering. It is a joy to have friends who are as nerdy about fiber and stitch patterns as I am. We help each other in so many ways.
This month, sit with someone you don’t know. Introduce yourself. To the uninitiated, knitters may seem cliquey at times. I’ve never really found that to be true. Forgetful about how hard it can be when you’re a new person? Absolutely. Maybe seeking the comfort of those we already know after a challenging day at work or home? Guilty as charged, Your Honor! When I’ve forged the gumption to be the initiator and plopped myself down into a group I don’t know, I’ve found all I have to do is ask about their projects. And, before you know it, we’ve bonded over a shared experience - the beginning of a beautiful relationship!.
So, come this month. Reach out and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know. Make a new friend. And put me on your list of targets!!

In July we’ll host our potluck and stash swap. Do you have lovely yarn that no longer works for you? Are you looking for something special? Everyone - bring any yarn you don’t want to an AKG-member exclusive BEST (barter, exchange, sell, & take) destash event. Please be sure to sign up for the potluck 🍲.

June’s program was an introduction to a powerful, game changing tool: Knit Companion by kCDesigns. Our presenter was an AKG board member, certified Master Hand Knitter and published knitwear designer, Debbie West. You can view the meeting recording here for the next 30 days.
July 2026 Workshop: Knit Companion
Last month’s meeting gave us a sampling of Knit Companion and left many of us wanting more. Debbie has agreed to do a hands-on workshop. It’s Saturday, July 18, from 11:00-1:00. You must pre-register and there are limited seats.
The fee is $10.00 for members, and $45.00 for non-members.

August 2026: Melissa Leapman will present Tuck Stitches via Zoom. Meet up at the Dunwoody Annex and practice this technique while we have an expert on tap.
September 2026: Kate Atherley will join us via Zoom for a lively discussion on yarn substitution.
October 2026: Ssshhh! We have a special surprise planned. Watch this space and the website for more information.
Future Programs
There are many programs and workshops in the planning phase. Here’s a few!
Hands-on: small Amigurami vegetables, holiday (gnomes anyone?) knits, new-stitch-a-month, Doodles, beading, free form knitting
Technical: knits that fit, yarn substitution, non-wool knits, matching yarn to pattern, lace, brioche, stranded
About: sheep and yarn, history of resistance knitting, dyeing, recycling yarn
Interactive: share your knit disaster, what tools are in the bag, your favorite knit, stash-busting/swapping

Knitting/Crafting Movie Night at Aurora Cineplex
Mon July 6th at 7:30 PM
Aurora Cineplex in Roswell is hosting another Knitting/ Crafting Movie night featuring the new movie, Supergirl!
The first Knitting/Crafting Movie Night was a great success! Aurora Cineplex invites everyone again to enjoy a movie while they Knit, Crochet, or Craft. Same set up as last time—a big screen with heated luxury recliners, the house lights up and words on the screen so everyone can work on their project while they watch the film.

$ 8.00 for seniors ( 55+) and children ( 3-12)
$ 10.00 Adults.

SEFAA is featuring Varian Brandon in an upcoming workshop. The class runs 24-26 July, so it is an entire weekend of stranded colorwork. For those who would like to add this technique to their repertoire, this immersive class is an uncommon opportunity. This month I spent some time working on the readability of the newsletter on mobile devices by creating new headers and moving some of the elements around. The changes should make the newsletter easier to navigate and read on smaller screens.

Knit-a-long (KAL)

Join us the third Wednesday of each month for our KAL! We are a great group of regular attendees and those who join when they can. We can promise an entertaining and always encouraging hour. We choose patterns or techniques to focus on for each project together, Find our group on the AKG calendar--RSVP for the Zoom link--and also we maintain an active presence on Facebook under "AKG KAL"
NEW KAL PROJECT (Summer 2026)
We have decided to do Debbie West's "Athens Tee" for our next project. If you have been thinking about joining in the Knit-A-Long fun, this should be a quick knit with worsted weight. We all also admired Debbie's new pattern in this month's Cast On and liked the idea of doing a side-side knit for our upcoming warm weather months. If you have your heart set on a different one of her designs, as always--knit what you enjoy, but I believe most of us will be doing the "Athens Tee" linked below (and you know some of us have a soft spot for all things Athens, GA) https://ravel.me/athens-tee
