Greetings to all!
We have made significant progress on our goal to improve your monthly meeting experience!!!
STARTING SEPTEMBER 3 we are moving our monthly meetings to Dunwoody United Methodist Church (DUMC). 1548 Mt. Vernon Rd. Please spread the word.
The space is beautiful, it has professional level streaming technology and is well within our budget.
Parking is plentiful. Just drive around to the back side of the church and enter through the Church Office door. Follow the signs to the Community Room.
Our new meeting location will improve your ability to see, hear and participate, whether you are on zoom or with us in person. We also have onsite technical help should we run into a technology gremlin. There is a cosy area with sofas and chairs for knitting before the meetings start - to make it easier to build friendships and share tips. And, it comes equipped with a kitchen. There are also rooms ideal for workshops and to accommodate us as we grow.
Thank you Elizabeth Schroeder for making this happen. And thank you Kathy Borden for all you did to finagle, fix, and beat into submission the Annex's AV system full of clever gremlins. May the old system RIP! And may future program setup be a breeze for you. You are my hero.
Also happening in September is an AKG-sponsored Yarn deStash sale/give-away!
For October, we are replacing our Thursday Oct 1 monthly meeting with a party on Saturday October 3. This party will be held at the Dunwoody ANNEX.
Yes, I know this is a bit confusing. Mark your calendars and look for details in upcoming email blasts. The Saturday party is a great time to drive in and meet new people. Bring your knitting, there will be games and prizes. This party is a gift from a longtime AKG member, Doreen Lewis. If you knew Doreen, a fun loving person full of positive energy and a bit of mischief, please come and bring a story.
Elizabeth is building a membership directory to help you create a neighborhood knitting group and carpools to monthly meetings. When she reaches out, please respond with your address and phone numbers if you are interested. We want to foster activities and connection-building near where you live and at times that work for you. We will be looking for more ways to accomplish this.

This Month’s Program: Kate Atherley
Mystified by all these terms - double knitting, worsted, aran? Unsure whether fingering is a potato or a yarn? Wondering why you should care about whether a wool is superwash or not? How do you go about finding a substitute yarn for a pattern, especially if you're shopping online? This session class will explain yarn terminology, and build your knowledge of types of yarns and fibers. We will dive into the topic of yarn weights and gauge, giving you foolproof and easy ways to check and get gauge for a pattern – along the way explaining why it matters, when it doesn’t, and what to do if you can’t get it. We’ll also talk about yarn and fiber types, with a focus on matching project to yarn for best results.
KATE ATHERLEY is an internationally-known and best-selling knitting author, teacher, and editor. She has written twelves books about various aspects of knitting, including a series of four about customizing projects for perfect fit and style, and several about reading and writing knitting patterns. The combination of her university degree in mathematics, professional experience in software development and usability, and training in garment and fashion design give her a unique perspective. Born in the UK, she now lives in Toronto with her partner and their rescue dog Winnie.
Future Programs
October 3 PARTY - In-Person only at the Annex from 4:00 - 7:00. Gifts, prizes, games, camaraderie, food, surprises. RSVP here. Free for AKG members, $20 at the door for non-members and guests.
November 5 - Zoom & In-Person at the DUMC. Shaina Bilow will join us via Zoom to teach us different seaming methods. This will be hands-on; prework will be provided in October.
December 3 - In-Person only at the DUMC. Join us for Shop Night and a Holiday pot luck. We are not doing a gift swap this year, to allow us more time to shop, knit, eat, and socialize.

SEFAA at SAFF
SEFAA rented a house for this year's Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF), and we're hoping to fill it with fellow fiber folks. It's 12 minutes from the fairgrounds — a home base for breakfast, comparing haul, and unwinding after classes instead of heading back to a hotel room alone.
Rooms range from twin beds to private bedrooms, and you can split a king or queen with a friend to cut costs. Space is limited, first come first served.

Knit-a-long (KAL)

Join us the third Wednesday of each month for our KAL! We are a great group of regular attendees and those who join when they can. We can promise an entertaining and always encouraging hour.
